J&C, Great movie! Great podcast! I've only seen the movie once, so I am not as well-versed as you guys are, but I did have a different interpretation. I was under the impression that the spinning top was Mal's totem and that it could not be Cob's totem due to this. Further (and surely more crazy!) I thought that the ending meant that he had been inside Mal's dream (or perhaps her father's) and that was why once he took his eyes off (someone else's totem) the top, it would begin to act according to the physics and characteristics of the person whose dream he was still within. I found it curious that the only family members shown were Mal's (her children, husband, and parents) and that was why I thought it was either her dream or her father's that Cobb was within. I will try to see the movie again now that I have listened to the podcast twice (thank you iPhone for having 2x speed!) I will put on my J&C eyes and see if I can get it the way you two explained it.
